Recruited from East Camberwell YCW, John Kennedy Snr won the Club’s Best and Fairest Award four times in his first five years as a player such was the worth of both his play and leadership to the team. Kennedy’s philosophies and approach to training would see him develop into one of the game’s greatest coaches. The 1961 Premiership, the Club’s first, epitomized the Kennedy spirit. This was followed by premierships in 1971 and 1976. In later years, he became an elder spokesman for the game serving as Chairman of the AFL Commission.
