Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson says his side struggled to generate enough scoring opportunities in its 38-point loss to West Coast on Sunday.

The Eagles recorded 63 inside 50s compared to the Hawks' 35 - a discrepancy that proved near-impossible to overcome.

Match report: Eagles too strong for young Hawks

"We couldn't get it in there often enough," Clarkson said.

"But that was because West Coast were able to control the aerial balls both in their front half as well as their back half.

"That made it enormously difficult for us.

"We were under enormous heat for the bulk of the game and we just couldn't get the territory to get the game played in our half."
