Hawthorn has confirmed it will be without midfield pair Jaeger O'Meara and James Worpel ahead of its clash with Western Bulldogs at UTAS Stadium on Saturday.

Worpel was withdrawn from the side on Friday after being subbed off in last week's win over Collingwood due to a toe injury, while O'Meara has since also been left out given knee soreness.

Jai Newcombe will come in for Worpel, while Connor Downie is O'Meara's replacement.

Head of Football Rob McCartney said O'Meara was given every chance to face the Bulldogs but was ultimately unable to prove his fitness.

"With a six-day break between our Rounds 21 and 22 games, that has probably proved the difference between Jaeger playing and not playing," McCartney said.

"If he had had another day, he would have played but we just didn't to take that risk at this time of the year."
