When James Cousins got a senior recall in Round 13 of 2020, the 22-year-old took his chance and did not let go, playing in every game for the rest of the season. His 19.5 disposal average on the season was a career-high, with his final three outings especially prominent, averaging 21.7 disposals and five inside 50s. No Hawk bettered Cousins’ rate of 4.8 inside 50s per game this year, which was an area of improvement for the midfielder – his ability to get the ball in dangerous positions.Playing in a Hawthorn midfield that comprises of Mitchell, O’Meara and Worpel, Cousins’ strength of being able to play forward of the ball and still have an impact was a valuable asset to the side this year. Donning the famous number 24, left vacant by the departing Ben Stratton, Cousins will be hoping to continue his momentum into the 2021 season.
