Full Profile
Arguably the feel-good story of 2020 for Hawks fans, Will Day gave the faithful plenty to be excited about. As instantly as his debut game in Round 6 against Collingwood, Day looked completely comfortable at the level. Coming across from South Australia after the Hawks selected him with Pick 13 in last year's national draft, the 19-year-old showed a composure and skill level well beyond his years, with his coaches consistently commending his cool head under pressure. Playing predominantly across the half-back line, Day showed a great ability to read the play and understand the speed of the game. His ability to impede opposition forays forward is testament to that, with his 4.8 intercept possessions per game ranking fifth league-wide for players 20 years old or younger, and number one for first-year players. The post-season saw Day's campaign duly recognised, finishing fifth in the Rising Star award, 10th in the Peter Crimmins Medal count as well as taking out the club's Best First Year Player award. The slightly-built youngster will undoubtedly looking to build on an impressive debut campaign in 2021.
