Star small forward Luke Breust has taken out Hawthorn's leading goalkicking title for the fourth year.

The Hawks goalkicking count proved another tight tussle in 2022, with just three goals separating the winner and runner-up.

Breust (40) narrowly pipped Mitch Lewis (37) this year as the marginally straighter kicker earning him his fourth club goalkicking title.

The 31-year-old has now become the 10th player in the club’s history to win the award four times or more.

Breust has been the dominant man in the Hawks forward line in recent years, having also reached the accomplishment in 2018, 2019 and 2021.

Last year he finished with 33 goals and surpassed youngsters Dylan Moore and Jacob Koschitzke who finished with 27 goals apiece, to reclaim the crown after Jack Gunston took over the top spot in 2020.

This year marks the most goals Breust has kicked since 2018 when he finished with a career-high 54 for the season and an All Australian selection.

Breust's biggest haul of the 2022 season came in his side's Round 18 win against West Coast when he kicked six – an equal career-best performance.

With 481 career goals now to his name, Breust claim seventh place on the Hawks’ all-time goals list after surpassing John Peck's 475 goals.

Meanwhile, Lewis was the Hawks’ most accurate in front of goal for 2022, registering an impressive accuracy of 66.1 per cent.

His goal accuracy was the highest in the league out of those who kicked 35 goals or more this season.

In what was a career-best year, Lewis finished second on the Hawks goalkicking leaderboard with 37 majors to his name, an impressive feat considering he missed seven games this year due to injury.

He averaged 2.5 goals a game – the equal sixth best within the league – alongside Sydney’s Lance Franklin, Giant’s Toby Greene and West Coast’s Josh Kennedy.

Lewis produced two career-best performances, firstly in Round 2 against Port Adelaide, and secondly in Round 17 against Adelaide where he finished with five goals a piece.

His first half of the season was particularly admirable – kicking three or more goals seven out of nine games prior to the Round 14 bye.

It's a considerable turn around given that prior to this year, Lewis hadn't previously surpassed more than 25 goals in a season.
