Hawthorn has secured the services of two youngsters with Emerson Jeka and Tyler Brockman both agreeing to extend their time in the brown and gold for another year.

Jeka has made seven appearances at senior level since joining the Hawks ahead of the 2020 season, including three matches at the end of this year.

After starting the VFL season with Box Hill up forward, the 20-year-old was moved into defence for the second half of the year and broke back into the senior side in Round 20.

Meanwhile, it was a difficult year for Brockman who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury while playing for Box Hill in the VFL earlier this year.

It came after the 19-year-old made his AFL debut in 2021, playing 11 games and averaging almost a goal a game.

Brockman turned heads last year in Round 23 against Richmond, recording eight disposals, four marks, two tackles and a team-high three majors.

National Recruitment and List Manager Mark McKenzie said the club was excited to lock away the promising pair.

"Jeks has made a really strong impression in his second season, after making the switch from the forward line to the back line midway through this year,” McKenzie said.

"He has shown some great improvement in his game over the past 12 months and has started to find his feet down back.

"After showing plenty of promise in his debut year, Brocky was really unlucky to have his 2022 campaign cut short due to injury.

"He brings plenty of excitement with his attacking play and sharp skills, so we’re looking forward to having Brocky return to the track in 2023.

"We're confident that both of these boys will play integral roles in our future as the club moves into its next generation."

The contract extensions will see the pair locked in until the end of the 2023 as the club continues to solidify its list.

Brockman was originally selected by the Hawks with Pick 46 in the 2020 National Draft, while Jeka was taken at Pick 9 in the 2019 Rookie Draft.
