Jarman Impey has become the latest Hawk to pledge his allegiance to the brown and gold, putting pen to paper on a three-year contract extension.

The freshly inked deal will see the smooth-moving Impey remain at Hawthorn until at least the end of 2026.

Following an injury-interrupted 2022 campaign, the skilled defender has returned to his damaging best this year, averaging 19.3 disposals per game, including 14.3 uncontested possessions and 4.8 marks.

After being selected by Port Adelaide with Pick 21 in the 2013 national draft, the Shepparton product returned home to Victoria ahead of the 2018 season following a trade that saw him land at the Hawks.

Having ticked past 150 career games last year, the 27-year-old has developed into one of Hawthorn’s most valued leaders in recent seasons, resulting in his appointment in the club’s ‘Moorditj Kuda’ (leadership group) for 2023.

Complementing Impey’s on-field achievements was his most recent off-field feat, where he helped design Hawthorn’s 2023 Indigenous Guernsey. The proud Yorta Yorta man described the design himself as an honour and a way to connect and align everyone’s lives and lifestyles.

Hawthorn National List and Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie said Impey’s signature adds to the club’s exciting list build.

“We are thrilled Jars has shown his commitment in this new deal, it’s a real sign that he believes in the direction we are headed as a club,” McKenzie said.

“Along with Jars’ elite speed and line breaking ability, he importantly adds another layer of leadership for our young defenders, helping fast-track their development.

“Jars’ is among our most reliable performers each week; he provides great experience, and we see him being a crucial part of what we are trying to build here at Hawthorn.

Impey joins a growing list of key Hawks who have recently re-signed, including Will Day, James Sicily, Jai Newcombe, Mitch Lewis, Dylan Moore, Sam Butler, Ned Reeves, Cam Mackenzie, Max Ramsden, Josh Ward and Connor Macdonald.
