Hawthorn has finalised its side ahead of Sunday's blockbuster Gather Round clash with Collingwood at Adelaide Oval.

Small forward Sam Butler will line up for his first game since Round 16 in 2023 after impressing in Box Hill's game last weekend against Geelong, where he booted four goals and recorded 17 disposals.

Ruck/forward Max Ramsden will also take to the field for his first time in 2024 after playing two games in the seniors last year.

Youngster Seamus Mitchell also returns for his first game of the year after recovering from a fractured jaw, while defender Finn Maginness rounds out the inclusions after missing the Easter Monday game.

As already announced by the club on Thursday, veteran Luke Breust (groin) will miss Sunday's clash, alongside Mitch Lewis (hamstring) and Nick Watson (ankle), while Harry Morrison (omitted) is the other confirmed out.

McCartney said Butler's inclusion would provide another opportunity to invest in the future of the club.

"Sam has played 17 games in his first two seasons of AFL and gets his first opportunity in 2024 off the back of some outstanding VFL form in which he has kicked seven goals in two games," McCartney said.

"Sam's forward pressure, leg speed and ability to hit the scoreboard will be attributes that all Hawks fans will enjoy watching as he plays more AFL footy."

McCartney said it was also great to see Ramsden get the opportunity to play his third game at AFL level.

"We've been really pleased with Max's off-season development," McCartney added.

"He made a strong commitment at the start of the off-season to prepare himself to take full advantage of the opportunity to play more AFL 2024.

"After a strong performance against Casey in the VFL, he gets his opportunity to show the growth he has made in his game this weekend in Adelaide."

McCartney said he was thrilled to also welcome Mitchell back to the line-up.

"Seamus returns following an interrupted pre-season with injury," McCartney said.

"After an impressive debut season last year, we're looking forward to seeing Seamus back on the park again."
