Hawthorn midfielder Tom Scully isn't making any excuses for his own individual performance nor the team's in last Friday night's loss to Sydney at the SCG.

The Swans were too good for the Hawks in the Round 14 clash, running away 19-point victors, while Scully managed to record just eight disposals himself.

Scully said the club's third consecutive defeat was a hard pill to swallow.

“Obviously we’re disappointed with our performance against Sydney – there is no shying away from that,” Scully told a press conference on Tuesday.

“But, in saying that, we’re looking at the next nine weeks of the home and away season as a great opportunity for us to do something about our season.

"We're not in a position that we'd like to be in, sitting at 5-8, but that is done and dusted for now and from this point forward we're looking at the next nine games, starting with West Coast this weekend."

Scully's eight touches were his lowest tally in a brown and gold jumper, but the hard-running wingman said he was clear on what he had to do to turn things around.

"I'm not going to make excuses - I just couldn't get my hands on the footy enough or anywhere near what I would have liked.

"But that's footy and AFL football is a tough caper - you have weeks where you're lucky enough to get on the end of it and then others where you just don't.

"From my personal point of view, I've just got to get back to working really hard."

Despite the doom and gloom of three losses in a row, the positives of his year are still not lost on the 28-year-old.

"The body is feeling pretty good.

"To get to the halfway point and play 12 of 13 games is very exciting.

"At the start of the year, I probably wouldn't have thought, even personally, that that's where I thought I'd be but I'll certainly take it and I feel like every week I'm learning more about the Hawthorn way."
