Hawthorn midfielder’s Laura Stone and Emily Bates have been sidelined after sustaining injuries in the Round 5 clash with the Bulldogs.

Stone suffered a concussion in the second term, while Emily Bates will miss the remainder of the 2026 season after rupturing her ACL.

Meanwhile, Greta Bodey (concussion), Grace Baba (ankle) and Hannah Looney (hamstring) are progressing from their respective injuries.

High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett provided an in depth update on each of the players below.

Elli Symonds (Foot) – Available

“Really, really good progress. We didn't participate in the scrimmage on the weekend, but Elli did complete a quite a solid high-intensity clearance session on Saturday, which she completed really well. It's pulled up great, so from a loading perspective and a preparation perspective, we're really happy to clear her for selection this week.”

Laura Stone (Concussion) – Protocols

“Laura left the field and was assessed at the ground and was diagnosed with concussion during the game, so obviously didn't complete the fixture. She's entered the protocols as per the AFL mandate. That's a minimum 12-day period, so we'll obviously see how she progresses through each step, and that will determine her return to play date.”

Greta Bodey (Concussion) – Protocols

“She's progressing well, but obviously each step needs to be cleared within a set time frame. So, the reality is that Greta's not progressing as quickly as she needs to, to be available for this next round, so she won't play this next round. But again, we'll just continue to step her through the protocols as her symptoms clear and as her progressions occur.”

Grace Baba (Ankle) – TBC

“Another positive update for Grace this week. Her timeline's still yet to be formalised, but she's stepped through another key set of criteria for her return to play. We anticipate she's on track to maybe resume her running later this week. You know, stepping through these next few markers of return are going to be really important to be able to formalise that timeline. We are aiming towards the back end of the season, so hopefully next week I'll be able to give a more formal update on that.”

Hannah Looney (Hamstring) – TBC

“Hannah had a really successful surgery last week to repair that ruptured hamstring tendon. She's back in the building, has already resumed her rehab, so she's going really, really well. The reality of the rehab timeline for that sort of injury means, in relation to our season, it's very, very unlikely that she's going to return. But, you know, we're really happy to start that rehab. We're really going to get a kick-start on her off-season period and we look forward to sort of progressing her through as effectively as we can.”

Emily Bates (Knee) – Season

“A bit sad to confirm that scans yesterday revealed an ACL rupture for Emily with that tackling incident on the weekend. Obviously, that means the season's done for her, which is disappointing and disappointing for our group, obviously, being such a spiritual leader for our program. Look, if someone's going to attack a long-term rehab required for an ACL repair, someone like Emily is the type of candidate that's going to come back strong, fit, fast, and ready to perform. We'll wrap our arms around her for the journey she has ahead. She's already in the building bugging our physios for exercises she can do in preparation for her surgery, which is, you know, a testament to the type of person she is. So yeah, disappointing, but we really look forward to wrapping our arms around her.”
