Hawthorn midfielder Liam Shiels quietly put together one of the best seasons of his career in 2019.

Shiels' 23.2 disposals per game across his 19 appearances this year is a new personal best.

The 28-year-old's 6.6 tackles per game also rated in the elite category league-wide, with only six players across the competition averaging more tackles this year.

Shiels also notched up his 200th game in the win over Geelong in Round 18.

The midfielder continued to guide the squad this year in a transitional period for the club's leadership group.
