Hawthorn midfielder Liam Shiels says the squad is placing a huge importance on connecting with each other this pre-season.

Speaking from Launceston where the group is currently on its second camp of the summer, Shiels said the time away provided some good opportunities for the group.

“I think that’s one of the main things we’ve tried to work on as a team this year is our connection with one another,” Shiels said.

“It’s super important to get away for a week and just have breakfast, lunch and dinner with your teammates and have those conversations and get closer together as a group.

“The timing being just before the season starts is really important for us.”

Now one of the most experienced players on the Hawthorn list, the 28-year-old will once again be a focal point of the club’s leadership and direction in season 2020.
