FOUR GOALS from Luke Breust in Saturday’s 29-point win over Collingwood was enough to earn him best on ground honours from the coaches.

Breust received nine of a possible 10 votes from Brendon Bolton and Nathan Buckley, with one coach awarding him the maximum five and the other deeming him the second-best afield with four votes.

The dangerous small forward was outstanding for Hawthorn on Saturday, with his ability to get in dangerous positions and kick goals when needed was crucial as the Pies challenged the Hawks.

Breust booted two goals within a minute in the opening term and then sparked a brilliant three-minute burst for the Hawks at the end of the third quarter with the first of three goals that proved the difference in the game.

It wasn’t just his ability to hit the score board that saw him have a profound impact on the game but also his ability to pressure the Collingwood defenders and force turnovers.

He finished with a team-high four goals, 20 disposals, five tackles and five inside 50s.

Vice-captain Jordan Lewis continued his outstanding form this season with another impressive performance against the Pies, a team in which he has enjoyed success against in the past.

Lewis played a vital role in the midfield, matched at times, directly against Collingwood Captain Scott Pendlebury.

The Hawthorn midfielder finished with a team-high 27 touches and once again led the Hawks for clearances with six for the day. He also laid seven tackles and took six marks.

He was awarded five votes from the coaches.

Brad Sewell also continued his good form of the last month, picking up three votes following a dominant first half, where he managed 18 disposals before finishing the game with 26 touches, seven inside 50s and a goal.

What was impressive about Sewell’s game was in his ability not only to win the contested footy, which has been his trade for many years but rather his ability to win the footy on the spread.

Sewell provided great run, particularly in the first half through the midfield and on the wing, where he was damaging in his ability to deliver inside 50 to his forward teammates.

Sewell celebrates kicking an important goal in the third quarter.

Utility Matt Spangher played his best game for the year in defence in a Josh Gibson style role, working back to help out Brian Lake on Travis Cloke.

Spangher defended and spoiled well, leading the Hawks for one-percenters with seven and was an attacking weapon too, with 19 disposals at 94.7 per cent efficiency.

He was a valuable rebound half-backer on the day and picked up three votes for his efforts.

For the Pies, Travis Cloke was deemed the second-best player on the ground after five goals, 17 disposals and 10 marks, awarded six votes from the coaches.

Pendlebury, who finished with 35 touches, five inside 50s and four clearances was given four votes.
