The Box Hill Hawks were able to easily account for Carlton in the side's final touch-up ahead of Round 1.

Hawthorn Development Coach Andy Otten has given his rundown of the performances of the 12 AFL-listed Hawks who took to the field, as well as some notable VFL-listed players.

The results? Not quite. The promise? There for all to see. A look at some of the 'elite' numbers our youngsters are putting up.

Ned Reeves

"Ned was the dominant ruckman on the ground. He was able to connect with his midfielders, especially in the centre bounce. He gave Cousins and Newcombe plenty of looks from stoppage with his tapwork. He is in great form and he continues to build week after week."

Olly Hanrahan

"Olly came back to reserves level and his attitude was outstanding. His pressure around the football was to a really high level and he was able to get some reward with a few goals and over 20 touches. But we were most impressed with his ability to pressure the football, be clean when he had to and really compete all day so he was outstanding for us this week."

Connor Downie

"Connor started the game in really good form on the wing. He was able to use his run and carry and his big left foot kick was also on show throughout the game. He's been building each week and he's been getting better and better each week."

Conor Nash

"Nashy had a good game this week. He had a bit of a different role this week, it was blowing a gale and it was pretty wet so Nashy was forced to change his game a bit which he did really well. He typically plays a bit of an up-and-down-the-ground style game but this week he played more of a contested game and did that really well. I reckon half of his possessions were contested and from one-on-one wins which was a really good way to put himself on show. His pressure, tackling and physicality were also very good."

Lachlan Bramble

"Bramble started in defence and then moved his way up onto the wing and on-ball in the second half. During the second half, he really came to life, using his speed, agility and strong skills to impact the game. His fitness looks to be at another level to most, with his second halves in recent weeks consistently strong and powerful."

James Cousins

"Cousins was our most prolific on-baller, winning plenty of the footy and building a really good connection with Reeves in the ruck - those two were waxing all day! His power around the stoppages and strength around the contest saw Cuzzy considered one of our best performers on the day."

Harry Pepper

"Pepp was our only listed defender on the weekend. He did well down there and gelled really well with the Box Hill-listed guys. He had a really solid game, taking a few intercept marks on the back of his quick set-ups and playing a really smart game. He was able to link up with the other defenders well too."

Emerson Jeka

"Jeka again got great reward on the scoreboard, kicking five goals for us. But I think what we loved most as coaches was his ability to hit the ball at speed, his leading at the ball and his ability to create contests. I think his first three or four contests of the game, he didn't actually touch the ball but he was able to crash packs and make some Carlton defenders hurt. After that, he was able to get his reward but we think that started from his early work which really set him up for a strong game."

Josh Morris

"Morris probably had the best game of his year so far. We tried to get him to play as a bit more of a crumbing small forward this week and he showed that was a really strong strength of his with a few crumbing goals. He is going to be a strong pressure forward for us and, alongside Olly in the forwardline, he was able to get some good reward for his effort in that area of the game."

Finn Maginness

"Finn again did a tagging role for us this week, he was outstanding again. Each week he has been able to build his own possessions tally but at the same time he is so diligent in being able to play his tagging role and his opposition player has barely been able to get a look in. He's been causing all sorts of mayhem for opposition sides lately."

Keegan Brooksby

"Brookers had his first game back after a long injury lay-off. He was a bit rusty in the first half to be fair, but he came into his own in the second half. He took a few of his big contested marks and then he also used a few clever, little handballs to teammates running past to get them into the game. His first game back was ultimately a promising one. We expect him to keep improving each week."

Jack Saunders

"Jack is early in his development phase. His running output is at a level I have rarely seen before, he is very fit and very fast. He is playing as predominantly a small forward for us. We're looking for him to get dangerous with his crumbing as well as heap on the defensive pressure. He loves to tackle and chase so, when he is doing that really well, it adds great value to our team."

And some of the best Box Hill-listed guys?

"Ed Phillips has really shown great leadership in this side. He has been in the AFL system before so he has proved to be an experienced and really professional player for us so far. He knows where to run and where to get it. His cleanliness with the footy as well as his gut-running has been a real highlight for Box Hill so far.

"Our three key backs in James Blanck, Elliot Le Grice and Hugh Beasley, who played his first half of the year, did a really good job playing on some quality key forwards. We're seeing these guys develop each week, working really well together and looking really comfortable down there.

"Jai Newcombe came into the game in the second half so he came in pretty fresh. But as soon he was injected into the game, he came in with plenty of energy. He loves to hurt the opposition as a strong-bodied midfielder, he gives us a really dynamic midfield option."
