In his first season in the brown and gold, Finn Maginness showed some promising signs of what is to come in his fledgling AFL career. Taken with Pick 29 in last year’s national draft, Maginness quickly impressed coaches and teammates over the pre-season with his outstanding endurance running, knocking Isaac Smith off to claim the time trial crown. The third generation Hawk was given his first taste of senior action in Round 17 against the Western Bulldogs. Maginness looked unperturbed at coming up against the likes of Marcus Bontempelli on debut, with seven of his 10 touches contested. While Maginness was left out of the senior side the following week, the 19-year-old will have undoubtedly gained some great experience from his exposure against the Dogs and will be able to approach 2021 with a greater idea of what it takes at the elite level.
