In the side’s first hit-out at the MCG, Hawthorn AFLW succumbed to Richmond by 44 points.

The Hawks got off to a slow start on the big stage as Richmond opened its account with three first-quarter majors.

However, Tilly Lucas-Rodd started strong in the midfield and Jess Duffin was composed in defence.

In the second term, Hawthorn was able to apply more contested pressure to stem Richmond’s flow.

Both teams could only register one behind each, giving the Tigers an 18-point lead at the main break.

The Hawks kept Richmond at bay once again in the third term with the Tigers only able to put one major on the board.

Tamara Luke was able to pick up where she left off last week, providing an important target around the ground.

The fourth quarter saw the Hawks register their first and only goal of the game, converted by Dominique Carbone in the goal square.

Richmond then kicked away to a 44-point win, giving the Hawks plenty to think about ahead of its highly anticipated Round 1 clash with Essendon.

Despite the result at the ‘G, the game will go down in history books as the first time Hawthorn fans had the opportunity to watch their AFLW team do battle.
