To mark the occasion of Glenferrie Gold’s 17th Annual Function, the patrons had a final private viewing of the Club Collection on display in the Hawks Museum.
This special event also doubled as a launch of the museum’s latest publication, The Road to Hawthorn – The Origins of the Hawthorn Football Club.
Due to the large gathering with over 100 patrons, the Glenferrie Golds assembled in the player’s gym with a buzz of excitement and anticipation.
Regular MCs, the famed father and son team of Richard and Matthew Allsop, took to the stage and welcomed all in attendance.
The evening got underway with four new members welcomed as Glenferrie Gold Life Patrons of the Hawks Museum - Michael Gold, Peter Vodicka, who was visiting from NSW, Lianne Wells and the WA Hawks Supporter Group, who have joined for the 13th time.
The museum curator followed with a brief background of how the museum’s latest publication The Road to Hawthorn – The Origins of the Hawthorn Football Club began in late 1991 and was finally completed in April 2025. Fellow authors Rachel Bradshaw and Armin Ritcher also spoke on their roles with the evolution of the book as forgotten football teams, stories and match results were rediscovered.

On the theme of 100 years in the league, three key families who have been around Hawthorn since the beginning were invited to give an insight into the early days of the club. As a thank you to our beloved MC from days of yore, Mike Derum returned to interview our first panel.
The Kennons, Clinton and his father Barry, Wendy Hulse and Mark Field related many intriguing contributions made by their relatives all those years ago.
The Allsops then introduced Gary Ayres, Richard Loveridge and Scott Maginness, who all relayed wonderful stories of their playing days at Princes Park and VFL Park (Waverley).
A wonderful surprise was the inclusion of past club president and a very important piece of Hawthorn history, Ian Dicker to explain how the club was able to move to Waverley for the magic price of one dollar! The warmth in the room was palpable.
The dynamic duo from the 2008 premiership, Robbie Campbell and Clinton Young, rounded out our speakers for the evening with stories of playing at the MCG and at Launceston. Robbie Campbell thanked the club for being able to return home to Hawthorn. Clinton Young was asked about a lasting memory of Hawthorn. He responded by saying just how warmly his challenged brother was welcomed into the team environment at Hawthorn, something he held dearer than his premiership.
The traditional raffle was drawn by Ian Dicker. There were fifteen happy Hawks leaving with brown and gold treasures.
The Hawks Museum staff would like to thank our MCs and guest speakers. We would also like to thank Claire McKendry and Natalie Styles from the Foundation, Jen Sanderson from Events and Joanie from Acacia Catering, who all helped to make our final Waverley function so successful.
Our sincere thanks must go to all our Glenferrie Gold Life Patrons for their years of valued and continual encouragement. Your passionate support will carry the Hawks Museum to the Kennedy Community Centre.
