Emerging Hawk Sam Butler has inked a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until at least the end of 2027.
Butler fought his way back to make his AFL return in Round 13 this season, more than a year after suffering a devastating broken leg in 2024.
Recalled to the senior side for the club’s first final against GWS, the 22-year-old speedster grabbed his opportunity with both hands, going on to play a pivotal role in both wins on the road in September.
Since being drafted to Hawthorn with Pick 23 in the 2021 National Draft, the Lake Wendouree product has made 25 appearances and kicked 15 majors.
Hawthorn National Recruiting & List Manager Mark McKenzie was pleased to lock away Butler.
“The intensity and tackling pressure that Butsy injects into our side was highlighted on the big stage through September, and we can’t wait to see more of these moments from him in the brown and gold into the future,” McKenzie said.
“Butsy’s injury adversity has been well-documented over the past 12-18 months, and for him to come out the other side is a credit to his resilience and determination.
“Given his elite endurance and competitiveness, we’re excited about Butsy’s ability to be a versatile asset for us through the midfield and in attack for many years to come.”
