Hawthorn’s outstanding win over Geelong on Sunday was somewhat soured by the news of a knee injury to defender Jarman Impey.

Scans on Monday confirmed Impey has ruptured his ACL and will require a knee reconstruction.

“There is some damage to his lateral ligament as well,” GM-Football Graham Wright said.

“He will work through that but obviously he will miss the best part of the year.

“He has been fantastic and he is already really looking forward to attacking his rehab.

“He will be running by Christmas and we will see where next year goes.”

Grant Birchall was a late withdrawal from Sunday’s game after pulling up sore following the win over Fremantle.

Birchall will be looking to prove his fitness ahead of the side’s travel down to Launceston to take on Brisbane this weekend.

There was bad news at VFL level as well with Darren Minchington suffering another hamstring injury.

It is ill-timed for Minchington who was named as an emergency for the senior side in Round 18 and appeared as though he was closing in on his brown and gold debut.
