Box Hill managed its biggest victory of the season last weekend, taking a 97-point win over the Gold Coast Suns in Round 13.

The Hawks led at every change, with a seven-goals to two second term setting up the comprehensive result.

Hawthorn’s young midfield talent was at its very best, with Henry Hustwaite, Finn Maginness, Ollie Greeves and Sam Butler combining for 143 disposals and 37 clearances.

Box Hill Assistant Coach Jason Johannisen said he was impressed by the sides output at People First Stadium.

“Awesome to get such a dominant performance from the team and collect the four points,” he said.

“But it was just so valuable to travel up there and have an opportunity to connect more with each other which is only going to benefit us heading into the second half of the year.

“It was a bit of an arm wrestle in the first quarter but after a few adjustments we got the rest of the game on terms.

"A dominate performance from our midfield who all put their hand up for selection by commanding the stoppage game but ability to out-work the opposition defensively and offensively was at a high level.

“Nice to get a big win after plenty close games but always looking to improve as we have a big challenge against GWS.”

Johannisen detailed the performances of every AFL-listed Hawk against the Suns.

Henry Hustwaite (Three goals, 40 disposals, 12 clearances)

“Henry played an unbelievable game, putting up video game numbers and was everywhere on the footy field. Elite extraction and looked dynamic at stoppages but also showed his clinical finishing.”

03:38
Finn Maginness (Two goals, 37 disposals, seven marks)

“An influential game by Finn, displaying his trademark running power to help support the defenders and challenge the opposition offensively. Gives the team great flexibility being able to play mid/forward at a high level.”

Ollie Greeves (One goal, 34 disposals, nine clearances)

“Ollie is growing week to week with another big performance. Such a beast inside being able to use his big body to create separation and so good to see his foot skills on show.”

Sam Butler (Three goals, 32 disposals, eight clearances)

“Sam had a great balanced game with his toughness in the contest, his ability to get back to support and kick start our offence but also be damaging inside 50 which he is been working so hard at during the week.”

01:53
Jack Dalton (27 disposals, 10 marks, four tackles)

“Jack was playing that high half forward role, provided the link up with his work rate and smarts. Such a tough role to play but Jack is executing and showing rapid growth every week.”

Bodie Ryan (25 disposals, 12 intercept possessions, nine contested possessions)

“Solid performance by Bodie, displaying his tough defensive plays with 1v1 contest wins and ability to win the ball back for us. Great to see him use his speed and look to get more involved on offence.”

Will McCabe (One goal, 23 disposals, four marks)

“Playing predominantly on the wing, Will is showing great growth in his role with his ability to use his speed and endurance to not only support the defenders but use it to be a threat as a goal scoring winger.”

Aidan Schubert (Two goals, 16 disposals, six marks)

“Aidan showcased his ability to get up and down the ground, running AFL standard patterns to create opportunities to score. He wasn’t able to capitalise on some of his good work but is tracking in the right direction. Also had some exposure in the ruck for his development.”

Max Ramsden (28 hitouts, 13 disposals, 12 score involvements)

“Max could have had a huge day if he finished off in front of goal with 0.3, but as our main ruck he was key to our stoppage dominance and creating opportunities for the team to score.”

Matt Hill (One goal, 13 disposals, five marks)

“Matt provided some energy and spark with an early goal and is starting to understand his responsibilities in his role and how important he is to how our forward line functions, being able to play deep and high, and even go into a few centre bounces.”

Noah Mraz (15 disposals, six intercept possessions, four marks)

“Noah played on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, who has played a fair bit of AFL. He played his role well with strong aerial contest winning the match up, keeping Jamarra goalless. He even had a little stint in the ruck to expose him in a different role for his development.”

Calsher Dear (Two goals, 11 disposals, six marks)

“Calsher returned to the forward line after playing as a defender to take his forward craft to another level. As the game went on he was able to run good patterns and find space inside 50 which gave him opportunities in front of goal, finishing with 2.2”

Cody Anderson (One goal, 11 disposals, seven tackles)

“Cody impacted the game with his relentless pressure with some team lifting chase downs. Trying to find ways to get more involved with the ball.”

James Blanck (Five disposals, four intercept possessions, one mark)

“Unfortunately Blancky got injured in the second quarter but hoping it’s a speedy recovery to get him back as soon as possible.”

The Mustangs return to Box Hill City Oval this Saturday to host the GWS Giants in a Round 14 clash.
