Hawthorn VFLW has announced its six-person leadership group to take the club into the 2019 season which begins this weekend.

The new-look group will be led by premiership star Tamara Luke who has been elevated to the position of captain following her involvement in the leadership group last season.

This will be the 31-year-old’s third season with the Hawks having switched from netball to football in 2017.

Luke was a consistent performer in the side’s 2018 premiership campaign, playing every game and kicking seven goals.

“To be selected as captain by my teammates, coaches and the Hawthorn Football Club is a huge honour," Luke said.

"The club is like family and it’s a privilege to be able to pull on the Hawks jumper.

"I can’t wait to see what this team can do in the 2019 season.”

Luke will have two vice-captains in Lou Wotton and Rosie Dillon.

Meg Hutchins, Pip Peschke and Sarah Perkins make up the remainder of the group.

Wotton returns to the leadership group for her second season, whilst Dillon, Peschke, Hutchins and Perkins will join the group for the first time.

Luke has taken over the reins from Emma Mackie who will be playing at St Kilda this season as part of her arrangements to play with their AFLW side.

Hawthorn’s campaign will kick off this Sunday May 12 when it takes on the Northern Territory Thunder at Box Hill City Oval at 11.30am.
