As Round 1 of the 2020 season nears, we've taken a look back at the past two months of last season.

In that period, the Hawks won six of their final eight games with four of those victories coming against four finals-bound sides.

Over the summer, the squad was buoyed by this run of momentum to finish the season with a sense that that form can continue into the new year.

Our Round 16 win over Collingwood will be remembered for a number of things.

The Friday night game was the club's first in recognising and celebrating the incredible work of the nation's emergency services people - a landmark night to a group of people who deserve all the credit possible.

The Hawks' win broke a four-game losing streak that had seen Alastair Clarkson's side struggle following the bye.

But, potentially most memorably in the coming years, the night will also be remembered as being the break-out game for young key forward Mitch Lewis.

Having spent the previous five weeks back at VFL level, Lewis was recalled to the senior side for a match-up against the Pies.

On this night, he shone.

Career-highs of 16 disposals and seven marks to go with two goals provided a springboard for not only the side but the young key forward as well.
