Hawthorn forward Paul Puopolo says the feeling amongst the players has been positive despite the anxious wait that confronts them.

Puopolo has described this week leading up to Round 1 as “nerve-wracking” with a considerable level of mystery still surrounding the beginning of the AFL season.

“I guess it’s a little bit nerve-wracking because you’re not sure whether we’ll be playing or not,” the 32-year-old said.

“But I think the energy has actually been pretty good, we had a good session on the track today and I think we’re just preparing to play which is all we can really do.”

The three-time premiership Hawk said the club’s entire pre-season had been slightly different to normal, but stressed that this change was a refreshing one.

“We spent a bit of time away from the club this pre-season in Tassie for a camp and then Mooloolaba too.

“So, it actually feels like we haven’t been at the club much.

“But I think that’s helped us keep fresh for the year.”
