HAWTHORN has recalled a number of big name players as the Club ramps up its preparation for the 2012 home-and-away season at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Full-forward Lance Franklin heads a list of returning stars for the match against Melbourne that includes Sam Mitchell, Cyril Rioli, Brad Sewell, Jordan Lewis, Liam Shiels and Ben Stratton.

Luke Lowden and Mitch Hallahan are among the youngsters who will have the opportunity to impress the coaching staff, as they prepare for their first hit out of 2012.

Defender Jarrad Boumann will play his second game in the brown and gold after an impressive first outing as a Hawk in Launceston last week.

Youngster Alex Woodward will miss the match after rupturing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in last week's game against Greater Western Sydney at Aurora Stadium.

Other notable absentees include Josh Gibson, Shaun Burgoyne and Xavier Ellis.

The 29-man team will be trimmed to 22 ahead of the first bounce, however, in a new rule for the 2012 pre-season competition, clubs have the opportunity to substitute seven players from the selected squad at half time.
