Impressive young Hawk Will Day has re-committed to the club, signing a contract extension that will see him remain in the brown and gold for a further two years.

The extension follows a strong start to Day’s AFL career, which saw the first year Hawk debut in Round 6 2020. Since his debut, Day has maintained his spot in the Hawks side and been rated by Hawks’ fans as the team’s Most Valuable Player on two occasions.

A strong contributor to the side, Day is already gaining a reputation as a workhorse in defense, putting his body on the line and never shying away from a contest.

In what has been a disappointing season to date on the field, the emergence of Will Day has provided the Hawks faithful with much optimism and excitement.

GM – Football Graham Wright said the club is thrilled to have secured the promising youngster until at least the end of 2023.

“Will has had a fantastic start to his career, he’s only 6 games in but he’s already a really important player for us,” said Wright.

“2020 has been a season like no other, but Will has taken it in his stride and adapted to AFL level and all that comes with it really quickly.

“He has settled into the club nicely and is well respected among his peers, the broader playing group and coaches. Will’s a mature young man and a real asset to the club.

“We’re really pleased that Will has chosen to extend his tenure at the Hawks and I can’t wait to see what he can produce for the brown and gold in years to come.”

Taken by Hawthorn at Pick 13 in the 2019 National Draft, Day has the brown and gold running through his veins as the grandson of 1971 Hawthorn Premiership player Robert Day.
