The Hawks will be without James Worpel and Isaac Smith for the remainder of the season, with both ruled out this week through injury.

Worpel sustained an AC joint injury in Sunday’s game and has returned to Melbourne for surgery.

“He headed back to Melbourne on Monday to consult the surgery, and has been booked in for later this week,” said Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd.

“He’s in good spirits and once he gets that sorted, he’ll be a lot more comfortable back at home in Melbourne.”

Meanwhile Smith has been dealing with a shoulder injury for the last month, and the Hawks’ medicos have cautiously decided against trying to get him back in for the remaining games.

“Given we’ve only got two games to go, we don’t think he’s going to get there,” Boyd said.

“But the good thing is, with the break coming up, he’ll be able to settle and be ready for day one of pre-season.”

Jonathon Patton (plantaris tendon) is likely to be available for selection after two weeks on the sidelines, however Jarman Impey remains in doubt as he recovers from a heavy knock to the ribs sustained in Round 15.
