Hawthorn is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of 1961 premiership player Reg Poole.

Reg passed away on Tuesday, aged 79 years.

A talented back pocket known for his toughness and competitive spirit, Reg’s playing career with the Hawks spanned from 1961 to 1968, with a short break in the 1962 season to concentrate on his studies.

Reg helped the Hawks to the club’s inaugural premiership in his debut season, etching his name forever in the history books.

He announced his retirement at 26 years of age, having pulled on the brown and gold guernsey on 62 occasions.

The Poole family legacy continues at Hawthorn to this day with his daughter, Katie Hudson, currently a director on the club’s Board.

Hawthorn Football Club extends its sincere condolences to all the family and friends of Reg Poole – a great Hawthorn person.
