He is ready. He is set. And, on Saturday night, he will go for the 400th time.

Shaun Burgoyne headlines three inclusions to the Hawthorn line-up as the side prepares to take on Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium this weekend.

Burgoyne will become just the fifth player in the game's history to reach the epic milestone, joining the likes of Brent Harvey, Michael Tuck, Kevin Bartlett and Dustin Fletcher in this exclusive group. 

Having been the medical substitute in the Hawks win over GWS last week, the four-time premiership superstar enters the 22 this week alongside Damon Greaves and Conor Nash.

Hawthorn Head of Football Rob McCartney said the club was ecstatic to be able to join in the celebrations of a player he describes as "once in a generation".

"Shaun has made an immeasurable contribution to both the Hawthorn and Port Adelaide Football Clubs as well as the community of AFL football more broadly," McCartney said.

"His achievement this week is quite incredible in the modern era of football.

"He has built a reputation as a Mr Fix-It, with the ability to play in any position on the ground as well, as being the ultimate player under big-game pressure.

"He also symbolises the incredible contribution that Indigenous players bring to our game."

McCartney went on to explain the match committee had placed a premium on rewarding form at reserves level, which led to the selections of Greaves and Nash. 

"Greavesy has been knocking on the door of the senior team for a number of weeks now - it has probably been to his detriment that our back six has been holding up so well throughout the majority of the season.

"He has been forced to bide his time since his last appearance in Round 11, but he gets his chance this weekend.

"Nashy also put in an outstanding performance on the weekend with 28 touches and a goal. 

"We love the flexibility he brings and we think he has left us with no choice but to select him this week."

In less exciting news, it is three injuries that make way for this incoming trio.

Chad Wingard (hamstring), Denver Grainger-Barras (concussion) and Will Day (ankle) have all been sidelined.
