Hawks youngster Changkuoth Jiath forged a break-out year in 2021, playing every game before a season-ending knee injury in Round 17.

Prior to 2021, Jiath had played just seven AFL matches, but following some impressive form this year he now is shaping as a key part in Hawthorn's defensive stocks.

The fan-favourite had an outstanding start to 2021, having received coaches' votes and back-to-back MVP plaudits in the first few of his games.

Averaging 20.3 disposals per game, Jiath also tallied 5.8 marks and 2.4 intercept marks per game, the second-best within the Hawks this year.

The promising defender also earned a spot in the 2021 AFL Players’ Association 22Under22 team, exciting Hawks fans with his dashing play from defence, strong overhead marking and willingness to take the game on.

The young gun produced a career-best performance in Round 13 against Sydney with 28 touches and 553 metres gained.
