Hawthorn defender Jack Scrimshaw says he is grateful for his football journey ahead of his 50th game this weekend.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Scrimshaw said the milestone had come a “little bit tougher” than what is considered the traditional way.

“I’ve had to bide my time in playing a bit NEAFL when I was up with the Gold Coast Suns, learning my craft and being able to perform consistently,” Scrimshaw said.

“I’m really happy to have reached 50 games - I’m really grateful for the journey I’ve been on and hopefully there’s a few more to come."

Scrimshaw was drafted by Gold Coast with Pick 7 at the 2016 National Draft, but was unable to break into the senior side as he battled multiple injuries, playing just four games in 2017 before being traded to Hawthorn at the end of 2018.

"I learnt a lot up there (Gold Coast), then I was able to come to Hawthorn - which is such a great club with a great culture - and just tried to improve here, and I've felt like I've really done that," he said.

Entering his milestone game with a 2-0 start to the season, the 23-year-old said there was still a lot of development and progression to come within himself and his young teammates.

“We’re just trying to improve each game, whether that’s a win or a loss, it’s probably just more about focusing on getting games into our young players,” he said.

“It has obviously started really well, but we know it’s a long season. We’ve got a lot left to go, we’re not trying to get ahead of ourselves.”
