Hawthorn will battle long-time rival Geelong at the MCG this Easter Monday.

With a history of fierce battles between the two, the yearly thriller will be one to watch as the Hawks look to chase their third win of the season.

Last year’s match ended in a nail-biting finish, with the Cats coming out on top by just five points.

The last time Hawthorn defeated Geelong was in 2019, highlighted by Liam Shiels’ 200th career game.

This Monday, Hawthorn celebrates another milestone with star Jack Gunston set to play his 200th game for the club.

The game will be a big test for the young Hawks side who have started the 2022 season with two wins and two losses.

Jaeger O'Meara will again captain the Hawks in absence of skipper Ben McEvoy.

Last time we met

Geelong (69) defeated Hawthorn (64) - Round 3, 2021

The Cats were in front early in last year's Easter Monday showdown, holding a strong lead into the main break.

The Hawks put on an impressive display in the last quarter minimising the margin to a mere four points.

It went on to become an epic battle between the teams, with the Cats just holding onto their lead to win by five points.

Young gun Changkuoth Jiath caught the eye of many picking up 23 disposals and 10 marks.

Alongside Jiath, Chad Wingard, Jaeger O'Meara, Jack Scrimshaw, Tom Phillips and Liam Shiels were named among the side's best.

Our last game

St Kilda (142) defeated Hawthorn (73)

After a promising start to the season, the Hawks delivered what was clearly their most lacklustre performance of the season to date against a rampaging Saints outfit.

The opening quarter started on a positive note with Dylan Moore slotting two goals in the initial minutes.

But the Saints quickly turned things back around on their terms, booting 12 goals to Hawthorn’s five by the main break.

The early dominance set the tone for the match, with St Kilda ultimately proving too strong defeating Hawthorn by 69 points.

Jai Newcombe (23 disposals), Changkuoth Jiath (22 disposals), and Tom Mitchell (32 disposals) were among the Hawks best, while Mitch Lewis and Luke Breust were also important up forward, both kicking three goals.
