Last time we met

Hawthorn (99) defeated Western Bulldogs (62) in Elimination Final, 2024.

Hawthorn secured a convincing 37-point win over the Western Bulldogs in an Elimination Final at the MCG.

It was the Hawks ruckman Lloyd Meek who opened scoring for the brown and gold, with a settling goal from set shot. Meek also won the ruck battle, with a game-high 49 hitouts.

Hawks skipper James Sicily, sore shoulder and all, was outstanding, holding firm in front of the tall Western Bulldogs forward line, preventing attack after attack.

The Hawks trailed by two goals at quarter-time but turned it around to lead by 11 at the main break, with the captain’s 10 disposals and five marks for the term the key to bounce back.

Calsher Dear has had his share of strong games in his debut season, but properly announced himself on the AFL stage in front of near full MCG (97,828), he finished with three goals for the night.

Jai Newcombe had a day out, racking up 35 disposals and a goal, while young gun Nick Watson booted four majors in his first final at the level.
