Young winger Massimo D’Ambrosio has signed a three-year contract extension to remain a Hawk until at least the end of 2028.

The classy ball user continues to play an important role in Hawthorn’s senior side, after quickly establishing himself in his debut season for the brown and gold last year.

Playing 24 of a possible 25 games, D’Ambrosio elevated his status to become one of the most damaging wingers in the AFL, earning selection in the All Australian squad for the first time in his career in 2024.

This year, D’Ambrosio has played all 14 games to date, averaging 18 disposals per outing, including a season-high 30-disposal performance in Round 8, dominating with 11 score involvements, nine marks and 796 metres gained.

Known for his piercing left foot, D’Ambrosio has gained widespread admiration for his ability to cover the wing, from defence to attack, whilst impacting the contest on the inside and outside.

Hawthorn National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie said D’Ambrosio had made a sizeable impact since joining the club.

“We knew the sort of character Massimo was when we brought him to our club, and his strong run of form has just solidified our belief in the player he will be for Hawthorn for many years to come,” said McKenzie.

“While Massimo is widely celebrated for his elite ball use, what’s really impressed us is his ability to add further layers to his game, including his contested and defensive abilities, making him an incredibly versatile player.

“Having only just turned 22, Massimo has a very bright future in the brown and gold and will be an important piece of our club going forward.”
