A pair of Hawks will undergo fitness tests to determine their availbility ahead of this weekend, while another is set to return via the VFL.

Key forward Mitch Lewis will make his long-awaited comeback for Box Hill on Saturday after injuring his ACL in Round 17 last year.

Meanwhile, James Worpel and James Sicily will need to get through Thursday’s main training before an assessment will be made on their availability.

Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge provided an update on the trio as well as more information on how Jack Scrimshaw, Bodie Ryan and Will Day are tracking.

James Worpel (Quad cork) – Test

“He was managing a significant quad corkie, he’s started progressing with some running over the past week and today was running again, doing some conditioning and we’ll test his training status this Thursday, hopefully get him into some drills and then we’ll make an assessment for his availability this weekend.”

Mitch Lewis (Knee) – Test

“He’s playing this weekend. He’s trained, had a great session last Saturday, full training, we did quite a significant football session and he fully trained again today, and we have another main session this Thursday. He’ll be playing in the VFL this weekend, approximately 70 minutes across three quarters of the game and playing up forward and doing what he does best. “

James Sicily (Hip/abdominal) – Test

“Progressing really well, he’s made some significant progress over the last fortnight and we’ve been able to build his training and conditioning to the level now where he’s going to resume some football drills on Thursday and then we’ll make an assessment for the weekend.”

Jack Scrimshaw (Hamstring) – 1 week

“Feeling really good and has progressed his conditioning as well. Just given the type of injury and the location of the injury we’ve decided at least another week with him, we want to get some consistency and considering some of the interruptions Jack’s had this year with concussions and suspension and some other things. Recently, we’re just looking to get some continuity in his training and give him the best chance to come out and play his best football. So at least another week away yet.”

Bodie Ryan (Clavicle) 4-6 weeks

“He’s just started a conditioning phase, non-contact football at this stage but it’s on track, he’s doing a lot of running. We’re able to really work on his development with his conditioning, that’s sometimes the brighter side of being in the rehab group is you can spend some time on some of the areas you would in pre-season, so it’s like a mini pre-season as such and we’re working on some things there with him and we’ll resume football in a couple of weeks and get him back playing football.”

Will Day (Foot) – 4-6 weeks

“The word on Will Day is he’s progressing really well and for those who’ve been out here watching training they’ll see him doing a heap of work over in the back straight with Jack Price and our physio team. He’s tracking really well and similar to Bodie we’ve been able to really work again on some real technical, mechanical stuff with his conditioning and his running, with the goal of returning to football but also to prevent further injuries and interruptions for him. But we’re still targeting Round 20 return to AFL.”
