Hawthorn's 2025 Peter Crimmins Medal count is set to be a tight one, with a number of players in contention after 17 rounds of the AFL season.

Three months out from the big night, we have narrowed down some of the key contenders for the club's highest honour.
JAI NEWCOMBE
Games: 17
Disposals per game: 23.8 (ranked above average)
Clearances per game: 6.3 (ranked elite)
After narrowly missing out on the Peter Crimmins Medal in 2023, Jai Newcombe was crowned Hawthorn’s best and fairest player in 2024. The star midfielder is well in contention to go back-to-back, having picked up where he left off last year. As stated above, Newcombe is ranked above average in disposals per game (23.8) and elite in clearances per game (6.3). The 23-year-old is also applying the defensive pressure all around the ground, with an above-average ranking in tackles per game (5.7).

KARL AMON
Games: 16
Disposals per game: 24.1 (ranked above average)
Metres gained per game: 593.8 (ranked elite)
Karl Amon has had a standout 2025 campaign and could be in line for his first Peter Crimmins Medal. Amon finished seventh in last year’s count and is on track to climb up the leaderboard given his stellar work off half-back this year. The experienced defender is ranked above average in disposals per game (23.7) and elite in metres gained per game (587.3). Known for his kicking, it is no surprise to see that Amon is also ranked elite in that statistic, with 17 per game.

LLOYD MEEK
Games: 16
Disposals per game: 13.4
Hitouts per game: 38.9 (ranked above average)
Fresh off winning the coveted Silk-Miller Memorial Medal for his record-breaking 59 hit-outs against St Kilda, Lloyd Meek is firming his case for a maiden Peter Crimmins Medal. The ever-consistent ruck is averaging 13.6 disposals per game to go with above-average rankings of hitouts per game (38.3) and hitouts to advantage (10.5).
JACK GUNSTON
Games: 14
Goals per game: 2.8 (ranked elite)
Total goals: 39 (ranked sixth in the competition, first at Hawthorn)
Jack Gunston has been winding back the clock in 2025 and is arguably in career-best form. Following 16 rounds, the veteran forward is first on Hawthorn’s goalkicking leaderboard with 38 majors for the year. He is also averaging his highest-ever goal average per game, with a stellar 2.9 majors. Gunston last won a Peter Crimmins Medal in 2020 - could he win his second five years later?

DYLAN MOORE

Marks per game: 4.1 (ranked elite)
Having narrowly missed out on winning last year’s Peter Crimmins Medal, Dylan Moore has produced another solid season so far. The vice-captain is currently ranked elite in disposals (17.4), handballs (7.8) and marks (4.3), as well as above-average in tackles (3.6). Coupled with his 13 goals for the season, could this be the year that Moore finally breaks through to win his first Peter Crimmins Medal?
JARMAN IMPEY
Games: 15
Disposals per game: 17.5
Marks per game: 4.8
Is Jarman Impey in line for back-to-back podium finishes? Or could he perhaps go one or two better? The reliable defender is in fine form once again in 2025, averaging 17.3 disposals and 4.9 marks per game from his 14 appearances. Not only has he impressed on the field, but also off the field with his leadership and infectious positive energy around the group.

HARRY MORRISON

Marks per game: 4.7 (ranked elite)
Harry Morrison has had a breakout 2025 campaign and could be in contention for his maiden Peter Crimmins Medal. Coming off 12 games last year, the 26-year-old has suited up for every match this season with impressive averages of 17.1 disposals and 4.9 marks per game, ranked elite in the latter category. Morrison has also been known to have an impact in multiple positions this year, whether that’s on the wing, off half-back, or even sneaking up forward to kick a few goals, registering four for the year so far.

JOSH BATTLE

Tackles: 1.8 per game (Above average)
Josh Battle has made an immediate impact in his debut season in the brown and gold. The 26-year-old has showcased his defensive talents and taken advantage of the freedom to run and carry further up the ground. Ranking elite in disposals (18.7) and handballs (7.2), his pressure around the contest with 1.8 tackles a game (above average) has been invaluable for the Hawks. Is Battle a chance to finish high among the final vote count or even take out his first Peter Crimmins Medal?

TOM BARRASS

Intercept Marks: 2.7 per game (Above average)
Tom Barrass has proven to be a worthy trade target, providing a big presence in the Hawks defensive end. The 29-year-old lockdown defender is averaging 5.3 spoils, 4.1 marks and 2.7 intercept marks per game. Providing great experience and leadership in the backline, Barrass has been a valuable addition to Hawthorn both on and off the field. How will he fair in the PCM count after his first season in brown and gold?

JOSH WARD

In his best season to date, could Josh Ward finish at the pointy end of the Peter Crimmins Medal count after a breakout season? The 21-year-old has already played 15 games in 2025, one shy of his season-high tally (16) in his young career to date. Ward has become a reliable cog in the Hawks’ midfield unit, averaging 21.1 disposals, 3.4 marks and 3.3 clearances. Having recommitted to the club for a further four years, Ward is just getting started in the brown and gold.
MABIOR CHOL

Goal accuracy: 66.7 (Above average)
Total Goals: 32
A sole key forward for a majority of the season to date, Mabior Chol has produced some quality football in 2025. Fresh off his 100th career game, the 28-year-old sits second on the Hawthorn leaderboard with 32 goals from an elite 69.6 accuracy in front of goal. As well as his scoreboard contributions, Chol is averaging 4.1 marks and 2.3 tackles a game, bringing the pressure in the air and on the ground. JACK GINNIVAN

Jack Ginnivan is back to his best, and could his best see him claim a Peter Crimmins Medal in 2025? A top 10 finish in 2024, Ginnivan has found his form again in 2025 off the back of a one-match stint in the VFL. He’s averaging 17.4 disposals, 10 kicks and 7.4 handballs per game, ranking elite in all three areas. With 18 goals to his name this season, averaging 1.2 per match (ranking above average), and sits fourth on the Hawks’ goalkicking leaderboard.
JOSH WEDDLE
Games: 15
Disposals: 16.5 per game
Marks: 4.9 per game
Josh Weddle has impressed in 2025, with his speed and endurance proving pivotal out of defence. The 21-year-old is averaging 16.5 disposals, 303.1 metres gained and 5.8 intercept possessions a game. A versatile tall, he’s played forward on occasion, having booted eight goals for the season, and averaged 4.1 score involvements and 2.1 inside 50s per game. The 21-year-old’s recent bone stress fracture in his back could see him sidelined for the remainder of the season, therefore affecting his chances of claiming his maiden PCM medal.

CONOR NASH

Tackles: 5.9 per game (Above average)
He’s clocked up his 100th AFL game this season, Conor Nash has continued to bring reliability and grit through the Hawks centre. Of his 12 games so far Nash is averaging 16.7 disposals a game and ranks above average in tackles (6) and clearances (4.9). The 26-year-old has also put three majors on the board, the most he’s had in a season since 2019. A third place finish in 2023 his highest ever, could the Irishman go equal or better in 2025?
