Hawthorn will crown its inaugural Tyetdji Award winners on Thursday 25 September via the Tyetdji Instagram account.

Tyetdji is the name of the Hawks Community Foundation’s First Nations programs, meaning ‘brown hawk’ in Gunnai language.

The foundation’s Tyetdji programs close the gap in First Nations health, education and employment by improving the education, mental health and wellbeing of First Nations communities.

The Tyetdji Awards were created this year to celebrate and recognise the achievements and contributions of First Nations young people across the community.

These awards honour not only educational achievement, but also the strength of leadership, the richness of cultural pride, the power of resilience and the heart of community spirit, as well as acknowledging culture, histories and ongoing contributions of First Nations young people.
