Hawthorn has released its 2026 Indigenous Guernsey, which was inspired by the story of Noonuccal man and Hawks star Karl Amon.
Designed by Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins, the creation is based on the Amon family's hometown and home of the Noonuccal people, North Stradbroke Island.
Named 'From Bush to Beach', the guernsey captures North Stradbroke Island's meeting of land and sea.
The story of the guernsey is centred around the osprey, otherwise known as the seahawk, which symbolises vision, agility and precision - qualities shared by AFL players.
Netting patterns reflect traditional fishing practices, while the garment's earthy browns and golds were captured from the rocky terrain of the island.
The vibrant yellow tones in the guernsey embody Hawks pride.
Overall, the design celebrates the deep connection between culture, Country, and the game.
After many FaceTime calls, storytelling and sharing of imagery with Amon, Cockatoo-Collins didn't just create a beautiful guernsey - she created a work of art.
"The main piece is the osprey, or the seahawk, cruising over the gorge," Cockatoo-Collins explained.
"In that space is the waterway as the waves are rolling, sand hills at the back and then our cotton tree fishing nets.
"You'll see those different layers of texture through that landscape from bush to the beach."
Amon touched on how special it will be to run out in a guernsey inspired by his story later this year.
"What we do in Sir Doug Nicholls Round is share stories through guernseys, and I'm fortunate enough that this year is my year," he said.
"It's a really proud moment for my family to get to run out with the boys and share this story with them.
"It's going to be a pretty special few games.
"I hope that I can pass it on to my kids in the future and share stories about how the guernsey was made and what makes our island so special."
Hawthorn will proudly wear its Indigenous Guernsey in Sir Doug Nicholls Round later this year, starting in Round 10 against Melbourne at the MCG, then again in Round 11 against Adelaide at UTAS Stadium.
