When the Hawks signed Scully at the end of 2018 it was considered a risky trade, with the midfielder having spent almost all of 2018 on the sidelines with an ankle injury. But to the surprise and delight of Hawks supporters, he debuted in Round 2, weeks earlier than expected. He then went on to play the following 21 games averaging 18 disposals and kicking 12 goals.
