Several Hawthorn-listed players stood up in Box Hill's tough Round 2 loss against Carlton on the weekend.

While the Hawks were unable to hold off a rampaging Carlton, the likes of Tom Phillips, Jarman Impey, Ned Long and Jai Serong all produced impressive performances on the day.

Hawthorn Development Coach Andy Otten has given his review of each of the 11 AFL-listed Hawks.

Check out what he had to say below.

Tom Phillips (28 disposals, 4 marks, 11 tackles)

“Tom played his VFL debut for Box Hill. He had a really good game for us - he was probably our best player on the ground. I think his tackling and effort were the highlight from his game. He came in with a great attitude and really fought hard for us all game. Playing inside mid, he had a strong influence on the game for us, able to win plenty of the ball and use it well."

Jarman Impey (16 disposals, 3 marks)

“Jarman came back from injury for his first game for the year and he played three quarters. He built into the game nicely and showed his class with some great effort and running chains that he started from the back end with his dash and dare. It was great to see him get back and get through unscathed. He had some great moments during the game.”

Jacob Koschitzke (12 disposals, 3 marks, 16 hit-outs)

“Kosi played a fair bit in the ruck for us again, as we don’t have a ruckman at the moment for Box Hill. Kosi is really putting his hand up and battling really well for us for most of the game. He had some great spoils, and impacted some contests. He is doing well for the ruck, but we’d probably like to see him test the other ruckman going forward when he can and see if he can hit the scoreboard whether as a forward or a ruckman."

Josh Morris (15 disposals)

“Josh played a really solid game for us down back. He had some really nice defensive acts, and started getting involved in the offence too. Tank’s been building his fitness nicely and is starting to string together some good form for us."

Ned Long (20 disposals, 3 marks, 11 tackles)

“Ned had a quiet start to the game, but then he worked into the game really well from the second quarter onward. We gave him a job after half time to tag one of their players, Will Hayes, who had 24 touches for the first half. But then Ned went on to him and did an excellent job keeping him very quiet for the second half. I thought that brought Ned into the game, he was able to win 20 touches and 11 tackles as well, so his contest work was really strong in and around the ball."

Jai Serong  (1 goal, 16 disposals, 4 marks)

"Jai had another really, really strong game - he's a very competitive player. He competed really well, went up forward and was able to win or halve most of the contests he was in, which tells us he was getting in the right positions. In the last quarter he played down back and again moved really well and looked like a pretty natural defender down there, so I think Jai’s got a great ability to play anywhere the game needs him."

Emerson Jeka (2 goals, 10 disposals)

"Jeka played forward and a bit of ruck, but it was a bit of an 'almost' game for Jeka. He was able to kick two goals, but he potentially could’ve had a lot more influence on the game. He probably dropped some marks that he'd usually take so he needs to keep working on that at training."

Jackson Callow (1 goal, 6 disposals, 5 tackles)

"Callow had a quiet game for his standards, he looked a bit sore in the second half of the game. He wasn’t able to get his big hands on the footy as much this week. But Callow will learn from that and bounce back next week."

Seamus Mitchell (1 goal, 8 disposals)

"Seamus also had a bit of a quieter game, he was not able to influence as much this game. He needs to find ways to impact these games which are a bit wet, a bit drizzly and are really highly contested. We’d love Seamus to just live front and centre at the contest and either crumb it or put the pressure on. Seamus is still working on that and developing that aspect."

Jack Saunders (8 disposals)

"Saundo had a quiet game for us. He played on the wing and up forward, but just wasn’t able to impact the game in a way he would’ve liked. We need him to be that pressure forward and crumber up there when he's up there, or use his running strength on the wing, but he just wasn’t able to have the influence this week. He hurt himself in the second half, so his impact was a bit limited after half time.”

Sam Butler (5 disposals)

"Buts had his first game for the year, and he looked a bit rusty for his first game. He struggled to have an impact on the game. But he’ll learn from that and recover really well during the week and we're hoping he bounces back really quick. He’s got a lot of talent and showed some glimpses throughout the game, but we're probably after him to have a bit more impact."
