It was another thriller finish from Box Hill on the weekend, coming from behind late in the final term to take home a seven point win against Werribee.

The impressive team performance saw the Hawks bump back inside the top eight after Round 17.

Hawthorn Development Coach Andy Otten has given his review of how each senior-listed Hawk performed in the clash.

Tom Phillips (29 disposals, 12 marks, 6 tackles, 7 clearances)

“Tommy had his best game since returning from injury, finishing with a game-high 29 touches and seven clearances. He had an outstanding day. We matched him up against Gribble - Werribee’s best midfielder - they went head-to-head and Tom clearly won that battle convincingly. Tom was running much better on top of the grass and had a very attacking mindset with ball in hand and was pivotal in some of our forward plays and goals.”

Liam Shiels (27 disposals, 2 goals, 6 marks, 6 tackles)

“It was Pup’s first game back for a while, and you can tell straight away when Pup plays. The leadership and calmness he plays with, along with the standards he drives within the playing group is to a really high level – everyone grows when he plays. He got this goal in the last quarter from a kick in, when they missed a kick and he pressed in and got a turnover goal and it really sparked our comeback, so he was really pivotal in our win.”

Max Lynch (43 hit-outs, 16 disposals, 5 marks)

“I thought Lynchy was a dominant big man on the ground, he had 43 hit-outs which is outstanding, along with 16 touches as well along with six clearances, so it was a well-rounded game for him. I think what I liked most about his game was his ability to work back in defence and take some intercept marks, it really helped our defenders out. Overall it was a great game by Lynchy.”

Emerson Jeka (22 disposals, 6 marks)

“Jeks played a full game as a key defender, and I think it’s the best game I’ve seen him play this year. He showed a great ability to read the game and take some great intercept marks. He finished with 22 touches so he got the ball in his hands and he’s just such a beautiful ball user out of the defensive half. Just his intensity, speed and movement was a highlight as well. It was a great game for him, we’re really happy with how he went.”

Jai Serong (15 disposals)

“Jai had a really consistent game, he got some reward for effort – he had 15 touches - which as a forward, is a really good sign. His running patterns were great, he was able to win a lot of one-on-one contests which helped get his hands on the ball more, so a really solid game from Jai.”

Daniel Howe (19 disposals, 7 marks, 5 tackles)

“Howey used the footy really well this week, was really positive and helped us with some of our scores. He was involved in a lot of our scoring chains with his good ball movement. He had a player hanging off him all game which is a great compliment. He was able to have a positive influence on the game, while still trying to be shut down. Then in the last quarter he was on the wing and was really pivotal for us to help us get the win.”

Jack Saunders (10 disposals)

“Saundo’s speed and pace was on show again with some real flashy plays, getting some handball receives and putting the head down and taking the game on which we like to see. He had a couple of shots on goal which was pleasing, but we’d like him to finish off some of those plays to get that scoreboard reward. But overall, it was a really positive game for him.”

Jackson Callow (11 disposals, 6 marks)

“Callow had an 'almost game' for us – his first half was really positive, he took some nice marks, his work rate was high and he had two shots on goal, which he’d usually nail. The second half, he probably didn’t have the impact he’d usually like for himself, but nonetheless, it was a solid game for him.”

Max Ramsden (7 disposals, 9 hit-outs)

“Rama took a really nice mark which showed some signs there. He’d been working on that during the week with his marking craft. He's improving, it’s his fourth game now. He’s a young developing key forward ruckman for us, so he’s tracking away nicely on his path.”

Fionn O’Hara (2 disposals)

“We played Fionn up forward this week, and there will be plenty of learnings for him. The thing with Fionn is that it’s a great journey that he's on – and something we need to remind ourselves as coaches is where he has come from – he’s enjoying the ride and learning a lot week in and week out. We’re really pleased with his development.”

This week's Box Hill shoutout goes to...

Fergus Greene (6 goals, 11 disposals, 5 marks)

“You can’t go past Fergus – he kicked six goals and was the dominant forward on the ground for both teams. He was instrumental in getting us the win. Late in the game in particular, Ferg was outstanding. But he looked really dangerous all game with his work rate and athleticism. Some of his snaps were really impressive, so he was probably best on ground.”

Brady Grey (12 disposals)

“Brady had a job for us on Werribee’s best small forward and stuck to this role all day. He was relentless with his pressure applied to the opposition and with his strength around the ball. We were really happy with his game.”
