The Box Hill Hawks VFLW side put an end to the Bombers winning streak with a gritty 17-point victory at Windy Hill on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks showed resilience and poise, to secure the 6.6 (42) to 3.7 (25) result.
In a tightly contested game, the Hawks laid a strong foundation early and cemented their lead in the second half, applying pressure across the ground and capitalising on their opportunities inside 50. Amy Cariss-Brett kicked her first for the season and alongside Gabby Collingwood, were key up forward, both contributing scoreboard pressure and sparking momentum. Paige Price continued to showcase her versatility, hitting the scoreboard and proving reliable in the ruck. Eleanor Butler’s defensive efforts proved too strong for the Bombers, with 19 disposals, Butler was crucial in the backline.
Box Hill’s defensive unit stood tall late in the game, restricting Essendon to just one behind in the final quarter and turning intercepts into attacking opportunities.
The win takes the Hawks to a 5–2 record, and marks the mid-point of season 2025. The Hawks will eye a strong second-half campaign, and return to the field on Saturday June 14th, hosting the Darebin Falcons at home for Pride Round.
