Last time we met

Hawthorn (79) defeated Geelong Cats (61) in Week 5, 2024.

Hawthorn secured an 18-point victory over Geelong in perfect conditions at GMHBA Stadium.

Hawthorn’s midfield went to work with captain Emily Bates (28 disposals, three clearances) and Eliza West (24 disposals, seven clearances) helping guide their side to victory.

It was a see-sawing first half with the two sides keen to implement their different game styles. Hawthorn looked to control the tempo of the game with uncontested footy, whilst the Cats wanted to move the ball fast and direct towards goal.

The Hawks kicked the first three goals of the third quarter through Irish recruits Aileen Gilroy and Áine McDonagh, whilst Laura Stone kicked her first two AFLW goals to finish with a career-high and equal-game high, three majors.

Young Hawks key forward Mackenzie Eardley kicked her first AFL goal to open the final term, while a running goal (also her first in AFLW) from stat mid Jasmine Fleming was the sealer for Hawthorn.
