Hawthorn is set to welcome Emily Everist back into its line-up for Thursday's clash with Fremantle at Kinetic Stadium, Frankston.
Everist presented with some delayed concussion symptoms following the Hawks' nine-point win over Collingwood in Round 6 and then missed the following match against Geelong in Round 7.
As announced on Monday, Emily Bates sustained an SC shoulder joint injury in the club's seven-point win over the Cats and will spend an extended period on the sidelines.
In defence, Najwa Allen is four weeks away from returning to play, following her hamstring injury.
Hawthorn AFLW High Performance Manager Aaron Kellett provided an update on each player, as well as Bridie Hipwell who will miss the rest of the season with a broken leg.
Emily Everist (Concussion) – Available
“Emily has successfully stepped through her AFL concussion protocols, and she’s completed main training today. So, pending pulling up fine tomorrow, which we anticipate, she’ll be available this week.”
Najwa Allen (Hamstring) – 4 weeks
“She's tracking really well. As I discussed last week, we’ve started to progress some of those higher-end stages of return to play. We’ve done some further testing this week, which has helped inform and shape that plan. So she’s on line to start sprinting next week, at this stage we probably have her on a path to availability in Round 11.”
Emily Bates (SC Joint) – TBC
“Emily suffered an impact injury to her sternoclavicular joint, so the point where her collarbone meets her chest basically. That can be a really serious injury, given the proximity to internal structures. We’ve done some further investigations and our medical team are working through a management plan at this stage. At this point, we anticipate Emily’s going to have an extended period on the sidelines, and we’ll update a timeline once we have that detail.”
Bridie Hipwell (Leg) – Season
“Bridie’s in at the club this morning, actually. She’s had surgery to pin that fracture. She’s on crutches, but able to partially weight-bear, so we’ll start to reload her once that wound’s healed and has been cleared. We’ll basically start getting her to work. We anticipate that in three to four months, we’ll see Bridie back pretty close to full action.”
