Hawthorn recruit Chad Wingard appears unlikely to be available for Round 1 following an injury setback at training.

Wingard has been dealing with calf tightness over the past four weeks.

The 25-year-old was working towards re-joining the main group when he experienced this latest setback earlier this week.

Hawthorn’s GM-Football Graham Wright said he believes the two-time All Australian’s Hawks debut may now be delayed.

“Unfortunately, it is unlikely Chad will be fit for Round 1 against Adelaide,” Wright said.

“Chad had put a strong block of training in before this setback.

“He has been incredibly dedicated since arriving at the club and we are sure he will apply this same level of commitment throughout this next stage of his recovery.”
