Six Hawks are in line for a return this weekend as the club prepares to face Carlton in the VFL and AFL.

Timelines have also been set for Karl Amon, Josh Battle and Ned Reeves, who all were ruled out of Hawthorn's Round 17 match against Melbourne, and Sam Butler, who was sidelined for Box Hill's Round 15 VFL clash with Tasmania.

Finn Maginness also remains a test to return from his back injury after missing a second week of football over the weekend.

Following a facial fracture suffered in the VFL on Saturday, midfielder Henry Hustwaite has been added to the injury list this week.

Max Beattie (ankle), James Blanck (hamstring), Jarman Impey (hamstring) and Finn Maginness (back) - Test

"Yeah, quite a few short-term injuries over the past week or so. We're expecting all of them to fully train on Thursday, and we'll make final decisions on all their availability for this week."

Karl Amon (knee) - Test

"Karl manages an issue which is a longer-term issue, and we've been on top of it for most of the year and the last couple of years. It just was more irritated out of the game last week, and midway through the week, it became apparent that we were probably going to need to take a week, just let things settle and get some running into him over the weekend. He was out there today doing some straight-line running and some conditioning afterwards. Our expectation is he'll return to training on Thursday, and then we'll make a further assessment if we are progressing back into match play or if we need more time."

Nick Watson (hamstring) - Test

"He's tracking really well. He had a really good session across the weekend on Saturday, a conditioning session, and today he ran faster. We hit some speed today and did some skills work separate from the group. Our plan all week has been to do that session today and then to return to main training on Thursday. Then we'll be able to make a final assessment on his availability for the weekend."

Josh Battle (appendix) - 1-2 weeks

"It was really late in the week last week, he obviously woke up, wasn't very comfortable and had to go into hospital, and it was deemed that he needed his appendix removed. So he will miss two games. He missed the game on the weekend and will miss this week's game. We expect him to be available for the Richmond game next week, but we'll need to update and assess that in the early part of next week. But with a 15-day turnaround, we would expect that that's a strong possibility."

Sam Butler (leg) - 1-2 weeks

"He's got some bone stress in his leg which has developed over the season, and it just became sore going into that last game and during the game. It's difficult sometimes with these things, they can creep up on you very quickly. Given some of the issues he's had in the past, we certainly had to back him off and got some scans, and he was off legs all last week. He started running this week. It's a short-term injury. He's missing at least two games at the moment. He won't play this weekend. We'll have a look at him for next week, but once again, we'll make a smart call based on how he's feeling and how he's tracking, but it's a short-term injury."

Ned Reeves (knee) - 1-3 weeks

"It was just a joint issue out of the game (against GWS) with his knee, and he wasn't able to resume running last week, so he missed the game. This week, he's been able to run on our Boost treadmill, which is an anti-gravity treadmill similar to the AlterG we had at Waverley. So he's resumed that today. He's not playing this week, but we'll certainly have a look for next week, and we'll just update as he progresses over the next seven days and make an assessment next week."

Henry Hustwaite (face) - 4 weeks

"Yeah, a serious facial injury. He had some teeth knocked out, and he's got a little fracture as well with it, so he's going to miss four weeks at this stage. That's the time frame we've been given. Certainly, eating is a bit of an issue for him at the moment- soft foods, all those sorts of things- but he'll be able to condition and run and do non-contact training, but we just can't do any contact for that period of time until he's ticked off by a medical team."

Jack Scrimshaw (knee) - 4-6 weeks

"What became apparent last week was we just took a step backwards with his knee and found there's a little bit of cartilage that needed removing from his knee that wasn't there originally on the original scan. There had been a bit of a change with a further scan last week, and we had to go in and get some minor surgery done and remove that. So he'll be off legs for a little bit longer, but back running hopefully in the next week or 10 days. So the timeline is four to six weeks. It's a little bit of a longer-term time frame, and that's the time frame we've been told. So he definitely will be playing football again this season. If we can get running in the next fortnight and get moving and that responds well, then that time frame can change, but what's important is the longer-term health of his knee and Jack's preparation as well. It's been a rough ride for him, that's for sure, but at least now we feel like we can see some light at the end of the tunnel and progress his conditioning and back to football."

Conor Nash (neck) - TBC

"Similar messaging to last week, it's a disc-related issue that involves a nerve that runs down his arm, and he's lacking strength and power in one side of his body, in his arm. The rest of his body's fine, he can run, and he can mark the ball, and he can do non-contact training, but he doesn't have full strength back. It is slowly improving, but it is slow. He's currently been up in Sydney seeing a specialist up there who's worked with rugby league players and rugby union players, so we've got some more information there and and some strategies to to try and help but the time frame is TBC because until he gets strength back close to 100%, we're not able to progress into contact, so there's a little bit of work to be done. But as I said last week, this is just time. Sometimes with injuries, you need time, and we need more time. But the positive side is there are a lot of things he can do, and we are doing those things with him. Conor will continue to train non-contact skills, we'll condition him, do strength work, and we'll just keep working at all those goals that we have for him. Then we'll just keep updating each week as to his progression, but as I said, we just need more time."
