What will Hawthorn do at the selection table this week?

The Hawks’ performance against St Kilda in Round 7 left a bit to be desired, losing all four quarters as the Saints ran away 69-point victors.

Changes seem necessary – but where will they come from?

Talented duo Chad Wingard and Jaeger O’Meara both watched on from the sidelines last week.

On Thursday, Coach Alastair Clarkson said he was hopeful the pair may return for this weekend’s clash with West Coast.

But Clarkson conceded he wouldn’t be willing to take any risks with either player.

"They've both had sore spots that they'd normally be able to carry in games, but, in particular Jaeger with his around the hip and groin area, we just don't want to take any risks,” the four-time premiership coach said.

"Chad just had DOMS after the six-day break and we just didn't want to take a punt with that either."

Daniel Howe was a stand-out in Box Hill’s inspiring, come-from-behind win over Sandringham on Sunday.

He finished with 30 disposals, six marks and a goal to his name, with VFL Coach Sam Mitchell commending his ability to have an impact on both the inside and outside of the contest.

First-year forward Tyler Brockman was also a notable performer, recording 16 disposals, seven marks and two goals.

In addition to the offensive work of the youngster, Mitchell also praised his defensive effort, suggesting “chasedown tackles and smothers were the feature of his game”.

Key defender Michael Hartley has been thereabouts with the senior side this year, despite making only one appearance.

The Eagles boast a potent forward line, with some exceptionally strong key forwards, will that be enough to see Hartley included in the side?

We'll have to wait and see.

The team to take on West Coast will be announced on Saturday at 6.20pm AEST.
