Hawthorn midfielder Cam Mackenzie is set to return to the field in one to two weeks after fracturing his hand at training last week.

The 21-year-old was withdrawn from Hawthorn's Centenary Match squad on Friday afternoon and will miss this Saturday's game against Melbourne at the MCG.

Young ruck/forward Max Ramsden has also been added to the injury list, listed as a test for a calf injury.

Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge provided an update on the duo, as well as how Karl Amon and Jack Scrimshaw are progressing through their respective concussions and finally, how Will Day is recovering from his foot injury.

Karl Amon - concussion (test)

"He's just gone through the concussion protocols and has resumed training this week. He'll fully train in our main session on Thursday and potentially be available for the weekend, providing everything goes well."

Max Ramsden - calf (test)

"He had a sore calf during the Box Hill game on Saturday night. He's had a scan and he's actually got a plantaris injury, which is a lesser-known muscle down in your lower leg. It can feel like a calf strain, but it's actually not a calf strain. It's actually not a serious issue at all. He's started running again today and these tend to resolve quite quickly, so we'll have a look at him for training on Thursday and if he can train on Thursday, then he can be available this weekend. But right now, he's a test."

Cam Mackenzie - hand (1-2 weeks)

"He had surgery yesterday (Monday) on his hand. It was a really unfortunate and unlucky situation towards the end of training, just doing a stoppage drill and fell in an awkward position, putting his hand in an awkward way on the ground. The force that went through just created what we thought may have been a fracture and sure enough on scan, that's what the result was. He's had to come in and have some minor surgery. He'll be missing this week but we're hopeful that he's a chance for next week, the Round 10 game. If not that, the one after, but at this stage, it's too hard to say exactly when he'll be returning. Hopefully we'll know by the end of this week as we get him moving and get him training. Then over the weekend, we'll have a better indication of what it looks like."

Jack Scrimshaw - concussion (1-2 weeks)

"As I mentioned last week, it's his second concussion in the space of six weeks so from the medical point of view, there was a bit more of a process to go through with that situation. We've made the decision that he won't be available this week. It's certainly looking more promising for next week - the Gold Coast game in Round 10. We're thinking that that's how it's going to play out but we also need to go through just one or two more steps to make sure that that's going to go in that direction, but we're feeling fairly confident that it will."

Will Day - foot (3-4 months)

"With Will, we've listed him as three to four months on the injury list, which is quite a broad timeframe. We're looking to start having him run in the next month. Once he starts running, then we'll be more definitive with his timeframe. At the moment, he's doing stairwalking, he's doing strength work, he's off the crutch, he's actually walking today without a crutch for the first time and his calf strength is really good. So there's a lot of promising signs there and some of the other medical tests that we do are looking good there. The next stage in the next couple of weeks is to get him Alter-G running and then grass running. I would say that's in the next month, towards the end of the month. We will have a more definitive timeframe of when he would then return to play and that'll be spelled out in a number of weeks. But as we said at the start, we expect that he will play football again towards the end of this season and we're preparing him for that."
