Jaeger O'Meara is a strong chance to make his return against North Melbourne this week, with the midfielder nearing a return to full fitness after dealing with hip soreness over the last fortnight.

"Jaeger's had some hip irritation over the last couple of weeks which has meant he hasn't be able to play the last two games," Physical Performance Manager Luke Boyd said.

"He's progressing really well. He was able to do a little bit of straight line ball work last week and full trained today, so the plan for Jaeger is to full train on Thursday, and assuming he gets through that session okay we expect him to play this week."

The timeline isn't quite as clear for Jack Gunston, as the Hawks medicos continue to assess the forward's fitness after he experienced back spasms in the warm up of Sunday's game.

"Jack's settling slowly across the start of the week," Boyd said.

"We're going to investigate a bit further over the next 24 hours as to why that might have occurred, but we'll just see how he settles down across the course of the week and make an assessment as to whether he's going to be available to play this weekend."

Young Hawk Ned Reeves has experienced a minor setback as he works his way towards an AFL debut, with the ruckman leaving the field during Box Hill's game due to an ankle injury.

"Unfortunately Ned rolled his ankle in Box Hill's game on the weekend and was unable to play the game out," Boyd said.

"He's since settled quite well across the first part of the week and was able to do some low level running today.

"The plan for the rest of the week is to build up his running and train on Thursday, and if he can get through that session, he'll be available to play this weekend."

On a positive note, Will Day is progressing well in his recovery from an ankle injury, and is expected to return in 4-6 weeks' time.
