Liam Shiels continued to be one of the Hawks most reliable and durable players in 2020. Only Tom Mitchell and James Worpel recorded more disposals than Shiels, who averaged 17.9 touches per game. The 29-year-old also missed just one game this season, as he courageously ground his way through a difficult campaign for the club. His tackle numbers were also once again impressive, with just three of his teammates laying more tackles this year than him. Shiels also had four games where he recorded 20-plus disposals and a goal, while his two-goal performance was integral to the club’s Round 9 win over Carlton. The triple premiership player is now the longest serving Hawthorn player, which is evidenced by his fantastic leadership. Shiels will be looking to continue his consistent form, as well as provide mentorship for the young, up-and-coming Hawks in season 2021.
